I think one’s attitude in life can effect every facet of their life. Much like one needs light to see the magic a kaleidoscope holds, one’s attitude can cast a spell on their life in either a positive or negative manner.
Wouldn’t it be great if we could wake up everyday to gentle birdsong like a fairytale princess? Unfortunately the reality is most mornings can lean toward the chaotic and can easily turn sour. Having a negative attitude could turn a not so good morning into the worst day ever! However if you’ve got a positive attitude your so-so morning could develop into a great day-even if things continue to make your mouth pucker.
I’m a naturally positive person. But being my own personal sun hasn’t always been easy for me. Over time I’ve learned a few things that help me to maintain a positive outlook.
- Be grateful. Keeping a gratitude journal or even acknowledging things you’re grateful for can really help you focus on the good things in your life, even if during a particularly difficult time it’s a smile from your child or a hot cup of coffee.
- Nurture your spirit. Do things that bring you pleasure and make you feel good. For me that’s writing, crafting, reading, and though I don’t do any volunteering now, in the past giving of my time has enriched my positive outlook in way I never imagined.
- Surround yourself with positive people. I’ve learned keeping a positive spirit and surrounding yourself with “the glass is half full” types can really help you remain positive in ways a “Debbie Downer” never could.
- Exercise. I never thought I’d say that but it’s true! I’ve never felt regretful after a workout, in fact just the opposite has happened. On occasion while running I’ve burst into laughter because I was enjoying myself so much!
- Disengage from negative self dialogue. Don’t berate yourself or focus on the things you may not exactly be thrilled about body wise, etc. If negative self talk is something you struggle with, I suggest you look in the mirror and tell yourself at least five things you like about yourself every day. Patting your own back is not a bad thing.

This is really beautiful
Some days I have a hard time being grateful. All I have to do is turn on the news and suddenly my life is put in perspective, I have MUCH to be grateful for. Thanks for the reminders.
I really needed to read this today, because of all days, I really needed it! Thank you!
These are perfect! And I agree exercise works wonders in many ways!
Girl.. You ROCK!! Awesome post and at a perfect time for me to read it. This time of year is hard, and this year is especially trying.
Thanks
This is the perfect time of year to remember this. It’s so easy to fall into negativity but rising above it is crucial!
This post is perfect timing. Staying positive is something we must work on at times but I try to put in the effort daily because it good for the soul.
I need to work on this!
I love this. I am all about being positive and embracing joy in life.
I love this post so much. This year I’m hoping to become a more positive person. I can be such a pessimist.
Love this Nicole!!! and what a gorgeous picture. Such pretty swans. Very good advice…there are so many things I don’t like currently about my life but I try to stay positive and hopefully 2013 is going to be the year I change everything & choose happiness!! *wink* I’ve started to make a list of all the things I want to change & improve about my life and so far I’ve got a few checked off! A couple bad habits…check….check….eat healthier..check…lose weight….check….exercise more…check! Next on my list…face my fear of the dentist…eek!! buy more clothes in my new size…booyah!…of course that means I need more moola *wink wink*, make my way to living near the beach (heaven!) and try lots and lots of new things….something I’ve always wanted to do…model!! I have a lot more things I want to do but I think I can squeeze that all into 2013 right? Right! heehee… Happy Weekend lovely.
You’ve got a great attitude! I’m sure you could check off all on your list!
I wrote a post as I woke up feeling similarly! Today is my mom’s birthday and I lost her last fall but thinking positive. I do believe it affects our lives.
Those are wonderful tips to remember. I try to be positive too, but you’re right it isn’t always easy. I really need to make sure to nurture my spirit more. I never really find the time for myself.
