Today is my birthday.
I was awoken today by my husband on Skype. He was ready with a chocolate chip muffin, complete with a candle. He serenaded me with “Happy Birthday” then smiled mischievously as he enjoyed the cake. A bit later my boys came in and sang me “Happy Birthday…Cha, cha, cha!” They were too cute!
This last year and a half having my husband away hasn’t all been easy on us, but now that I can see the end of this two year deployment, and now that we know where we’re going to be stationed next, I feel like I can begin to make plans again.
I feel very much like an old pocket watch that had been stuffed in an attic that was found, wound and is tick-tocking, away again. As the cogs of my life, get turning once more, I find myself feeling more, like me again. I’m making my way out of the rabbit hole I fell into. Feeling stuck is absolutely the worst feeling in the world. It has been a fight to keep myself motivated sometimes I won, other times the outcome was murky.
My writing is going so much better, I feel like I can focus on something for more than five minutes, and even though this move to Italy is going to be a ton of stress I’m looking forward to it. I’ve been trudging through knee high mud for the last 18 months and now that I’ve gotten my legs free I feel like I’m progressing.
Next year, God willing, my husband promised me a birthday celebration in Venice. I’m looking forward to sharing that experience with you.
love & birthdays,
nicōle
