Pages Upon Pages [All About Me Sunday]

Can you believe we’re in October already? Some will say that time has flown by. Indeed it hasn’t gone by any quicker than it normally would, in fact, I would argue, for me it’s ticked by at a snail’s pace. Honestly at this point I’d be pleased if I could fast-forward four months to February. February is my “magic” month, or rather the month that will end my husband’s long two year remote tour in South Korea. It will be a busy time no doubt, full of excitement and stress preparing for our move to Italy. As I mentioned, I can’t wait!
I’ve strayed however from where I wanted to go with this post.
October…Fall is here, okay, in Miami it’s more of a state of mind than an actual season, but still, I’ve got a good imagination and plenty of Pumpkin Spice Lattes to fuel me along. I have a ton of non-writing projects I’m working on: 5 Halloween costumes, two DIY Pottery Barn tiered stands, and a few wreathes. I don’t know how I’ll manage to get any writing time in but I will try.
Next month however brings us to November, and with it the pull of the crazy, the insane, the exhausting…No, I’m not referring to Black Friday, but rather, NaNoWriMo. I debated participating in National Novel Month this year, because I’m smack in the middle of rewriting a WIP that has been four years in the making. I’ve participated in NaNoWriMo the last three years and managed to achieve the 50,000 word goal the last two years. So why do it this year? Because it’s insane. There’s something to be said of going full throttle and putting everything but the absolute necessary on hold to do it. It will be rough, with two kids to care for and the hubster away, but I did it last year and during NaNo something happens to me. It’s like a switch goes off in my brain and I become focused and well, efficient. I think it’s the having of a finite goal and because I so publicly share my writing progress, both here on my blog and on facebook. I also have been dying to put to paper this story that has been brewing in me for the last couple of months. I’ve been holding back because I’ve been re-writing, but I think NaNo provides the perfect opportunity to flush the bones of it out.

  11. Good luck with Nano this year! I am still trying to decide if I will tackle it - it’s been two years now that I’ve tried and failed. Maybe the third time is really a charm!
